How NOT to Make Your Affiliate Marketing Program A Bill of Goods

Not too long ago, I published Is Affiliate Marketing a Bill of Goods? I do believe that most affiliate programs are unbalanced in the fact that the publisher provides (free) services in the hopes of a percentage of a product other words, it is completely unbalanced in rewards...a scam for all intents and purposes.

However, there are ways in which companies who wish to utilize this marketing tool can support affiliates and inspire action.  Making attempts to balance out the scales to favor the affiliates is a fantastic start! After all, no one wants to provide hours of writing content and promoting a company/product for 10% to 20% of a $20.00 product. It makes no absolute sense.

As I mentioned in my last post, I am an affiliate of very few companies. My reasons can be used as tips to support your affiliate programs.

I've researched and experienced the product personally. If I truly like a product and feel good about recommending it to my family. I will certainly recommend it to my readers and visitors. 

It makes perfect sense to provide a product to a publisher or blogger you'd like to see become an affiliate of your business. You can take it a step further and ask them to review and giveaway a product to their readers.

I believe in the product. I've not personally experienced the Birth Relaxation Kit, but I truly believe in promoting birth options. This company not only created a kit that offers a natural birthing method but provides lots of education about hypnobirthing.

Companies who want to inspire affiliates should provide them with factual information about their product, company and socially responsible initiatives...if they apply. Often times I receive "hype" email invites to affiliate programs. Leaving me to guess and research who they are and what they're about. What a lot of companies don't realize is that publishers do consider a good cause (socially responsible products and services) a trade-off for hard work. I know I do. It inspires good content and if we can get a bit of pocket change in return, all the better. Which leads me to my next point....

Make sure your product is marketable.

I cannot emphasize this enough, no one wants to promote a bad product or service. As publishers, the content we write, companies we recommend and products we support, reflect directly on us, which means we risk our readership's trust. No readership trust = No Impact. It's just that simple. Before you reach out and promote your affiliate program to publishers and bloggers alike, please mind your P's and Q's, and dot your Is and cross your Ts for good measure.

Offer freebies and discounts.

Show your affiliates support by offering their readers discounts and freebies and the like. Nothing garners attention like a free product and a terrific deal.

Inspire with interesting content.

Provide your affiliate community with unique and interesting content that directly or indirectly relates to your product or service. Sharing interesting news may certainly get creative juices flowing and fingers flying.
